With the weather improving and more cycling sportives on the agenda it was great to see OTCC represented at The Fred Whitton Challenge, The Oxfordshire Classic and a charity ride from Long Crendon to Paris.

Chris Brand, Tracey Prior, Phil Prior and Jason Atkins took to the challenge of the legendary Fred Whitton in the Lake District. The weather was exceptionally kind, but the hills were relentless! Chris did extremely well and made the podium, coming third in his age group. It was an awesome achievement by all.

Several of our club riders, including Ian Hamilton, Chris Chambers, Mick Chambers, Gary Nixon, Chris Dowsett and Ali Fairley, took part in The Oxfordshire Classic tackling the 100 and 75 mile routes. Again the weather was kind and it proved an enjoyable way of seeing the wonderful Oxfordshire countryside.

An finally keeping up with the tradition of taking on big challenges Simon Deakin, took part in a charity cycle ride from Long Crendon to Paris to raise money for Great Ormond Street Children’s Hospital and St David’s Hospice Care who support people with life threatening illness and their families, Save the Children (Children in War appeal) and Alzheimer’s Research UK the leading dementia and Alzheimer’s research charity. Simon did the challenge as part of team of 18 riders, averaging 100 miles per day and raising over £25,000.

Congratulations and well done to all the riders on completing these challenges.

If you fancy being part of this success, then please come and join us on a club ride, all riders are welcome. The rides depart from the Outdoor Traders shop in Abingdon at 07:00 on Saturday and 08:30 on Sunday.
